Why is it uncomfortable for my hands in the stance position?

The shape and size of the leg protectors is different and for some players can require a change for the top hand in the ready - stance position. This is a very personal thing and it's different for everybody. Getting ready to face a delivery is special for every batsman as he or she clears the mind getting ready to react to the delivery. Any distractions just before the bowler delivers the ball is very annoying. We have designed and redesigned the foams in this area and have had excellent feedback that the foam softens over time and allows a more natural hand position. If you are concerned about this, we can assure you that you do get used to it and after practice the stance position will get "comfortable" again.
